Unity 3D - Yet another admirer!

Even with concerns about the low penetration of Unity’s web plugin (<1%), there has been some chatter around the office about Unity 3D’s capabilities. Now, even Bartek Drozdz is hopping on the Unity 3D bandwagon. Having read about Drozdz’s 3d Flash adventures on the Everyday Flash blog for awhile, this post definitely caught my eye!

Flex Builder is now Flash Builder

Flex Builder is being renamed to Flash Builder! As a teacher of a Flash class who fields questions about the Flex Framework vs. Flex Builder and “what exactly is the Flash Platform,” I think this is great. In time, I think this will lead to less confusion. Flash Builder will compile to an SWF that runs in the Flash Player; not that Flex Builder didn’t before, but having a the similar names is more intuitive.  In addition, the Flash Platform will be consistent, all having Flash in all their names - Flash CS4 Professional, Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder.

In the words of Ryan Stewart, “the developers to the platform will use Flash Builder, the designers can use Flash Catalyst, and those of you who are creative developer rockstars will continue to use Flash Professional to create some great content.”

Augmented Reality with the FLAR Toolkit

One of these days…

With my upcoming move to Colorado and the hunt for a new job, I just haven’t found the time to try an augmented reality project. I first saw this with Boffswana and their little green creature named “Proto”. Shortly after, with GE’s Plug Into The Smart Grid campaign. Now, with Lee Brimelow’s augmented reality tutorial on this very subject, I have everything I need (except maybe an excuse not to try this). One of these days…

Moving Day is approaching!

My fiance and I have been trying to eliminate the stuff (and it really is just stuff) that we don’t use and don’t need. Well, more accurately, I am trying to eliminate the stuff I don’t use/need. He seems to have minimal stuff already. It is absolutely amazing how much stuff you accumulate in a few years.

The ratio:

Oxygen by Christopher Hendryx

Appealing to the nerd in me, this short by Christopher Hendryx stars Oxygen trying to make friends with other elements.  Apparently this was Mr. Hendryx’s thesis for the Computer Animation program at Ringling College of Art & Design.

Jason Madsen to speak at Flash Camp Orlando

Jason Madsen (my uber talented co-worker) will be speaking at the Adobe-sponsored Flash Camp Orlando on May 29, 2009. His session, titled “Making the Jump to Flex,” addresses what Flex has to offer, and “will discuss how to utilize your existing ActionScript knowledge and provide a good starting point for you to take on Flex development.”  Go check it out!

If you’re looking for that warm fuzzy feeling (without the help of an alcoholic beverage), check out this new ad for Honda: Honda Insight - Let It Shine . Created by Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam and the ActionScript brilliance of Casey Pugh from Vimeo, this creative ad overtakes the Vimeo interface. Check it out!

Hello world!

There is so little time to digest all the info we find on this wonderful thing we call the World Wide Web. As I’m trying to take it all in, and simultaneously be a part of it,  consider this blog “one stop shopping” for my thoughts, quips, quirks and inspirational findings.
